Vanilla Lucuma Buckwheat Shake

A high-protein, gluten-free, lower-in-fat Vanilla Lucuma Buckwheat Shake @anotherhungryvegan.comRemember when I promised another Sprout Living recipe in my previous post? Well, you’re looking at it! After trying the Original, Chocolate Maca, and Green Kingdom EPIC Protein flavors I was just dying to use the Vanilla Lucuma in a recipe. This shake/smoothie is nut-free, gluten-free, soy-free and low in fat but still high in protein and fiber. I only recently started using buckwheat in smoothies, and I was amazed at how it makes them so creamy and filling. The frozen pear, vanilla, and spices all compliment the Vanilla Lucuma protein quite nicely. Keep reading on for the recipe! Continue reading

A high-protein, gluten-free, lower-in-fat Vanilla Lucuma Buckwheat Shake @anotherhungryvegan.comA high-protein, gluten-free, lower-in-fat Vanilla Lucuma Buckwheat Shake @anotherhungryvegan.comAs I’ve mentioned in the past, I’m a big fan of Sprout Living, and their newly reformulated EPIC Protein is pretty impressive! Not too long ago they sent me some samples including a cool shaker bottle and a full-size of their Green Kingdom (which I’m a big fan of as well). I think my favorite will always be the Chocolate Maca with the Vanilla Lucuma as a close second. In case you’re not familiar with lucuma or maca, both are considered “superfoods” for their nutritional benefits. However, what I really love about them is the unique flavor that they add to any smoothie. Throwing them into your favorite recipe really kicks things up a notch. These protein powders from Sprout Living are perfectly balanced with ingredients so that you get the superfoods with delicious flavors that are ready to be used.

Now, let me know in the comments below…what kind of recipe would YOU use the Vanilla Lucuma protein in?

A super delicious and healthy vegan Raspberry Chocolate Chip Shake @anotherhungryvegan.comI’ve had a few Sprout Living smoothie recipes on my mind lately, and I couldn’t wait any longer to share them with you! If this is the first time you’re hearing about Sprout Living, well basically they make a line of super nutritious, raw, gluten-free and vegan protein powders. One of my favorite flavors of all time has been their EPIC Protein: Chocolate Maca. Sprout Living recently reformulated their line, and I was eagerly waiting in anticipation to try it out! The first recipe I made with their reformulated Chocolate Maca is for this Raspberry Chocolate Chip Shake, which isn’t your standard protein shake. This one is filled with protein and healthy fats, without any artificial sweeteners or color additives. Believe it or not, the color is from raspberries and the sweetener comes from bananas and dates. Read on for the recipe, and to learn more about one of my favorite products from Sprout Living! If you’re looking for more of my recipe experiments using their products, I actually have quite a few on this blog that you are more than welcome to check out. I’ve made smoothies before with just almond milk, a banana and the protein (and maybe a date or two) and even the simplest combinations have turned out phenomenal.

Green Superfood Protein Pancakes

Why have regular pancakes when you can make these healthy and delicious Green Superfood Protein Pancakes? @anotherhungryvegan.com Who doesn’t love pancakes for breakfast? I swear these are healthier and lower-in-fat than your standard pancakes and other sweet breakfast items. I’m super excited that Sprout Living has recently reformulated their line of EPIC Protein, and they sent a few samples for me to experiment with in the kitchen. Their Green Kingdom is packed with superfoods and greens including sacha inchi, chlorella, spirulina, kale, moringa and many more! One serving is 20g of raw, organic and gluten-free plant protein. I’ve been experimenting with protein-packed breakfast items besides smoothies such as protein oats and banana ice cream, and pancakes were just calling my name. If you’re gonna have pancakes, why not make them packed with great ingredients? Continue reading

Why have regular pancakes when you can make these healthy and delicious Green Superfood Protein Pancakes? @anotherhungryvegan.comWhy have regular pancakes when you can make these healthy and delicious Green Superfood Protein Pancakes? @anotherhungryvegan.comAs fun as it is to go out to brunch, sometimes it’s nice to just stay in your pajamas and have brunch at your own kitchen table. That’s what weekends are for, right? There’s just something about sitting at the table with your family that makes the food even better. If you’re going to make a home-cooked meal, why not make the most of it? I challenge you next weekend, to have brunch with your family or invite some friends over. And if you need something to make, these pancakes aren’t a bad choice! They’re also a double-win if it’s around St Paddy’s Day!

Why have regular pancakes when you can make these healthy and delicious Green Superfood Protein Pancakes? @anotherhungryvegan.com
These pancakes end up coming out slightly green from the protein powder, but they taste so incredible you won’t even notice it! Sprout Living’s new line of proteins are great in smoothies, but I felt a little adventurous and decided to use them in a super easy breakfast recipe. No blender required, all you need is a mixing bowl, stovetop and pan but you still get a lot of the benefits that you would if you used this protein in a smoothie. Even if you have picky eaters in your house, they won’t even be able to tell that these contain a ton of superfoods in them!

Why have regular pancakes when you can make these healthy and delicious Green Superfood Protein Pancakes? @anotherhungryvegan.com
I think we all know the magical moment when you pour the syrup on your pancakes and are just about to dig in. The best part of these nutritious pancakes aside from the flavor is that they’re super filling. That means you can sleep in and have these for a late breakfast and likely be full until dinner time.

Stay tuned for more Sprout Living recipes coming this week. In the meantime, check out Sprout Living’s Website and pick up some Epic Protein: Green Kingdom for yourself (they even have trial sizes available). Let me know in the comments below, what kinds of toppings would you put on your protein pancakes?

Pear, Sesame & Vanilla Shake

Dastony Review & a Pear, Sesame & Vanilla Shake @anotherhungryvegan.com
I really like tahini, and I mean REALLY. There’s just something about the rich, slightly bitter taste that I love combining with sweet flavors like fruit and Bee Free Honee. As promised, this is another review/recipe post using stone-ground raw and organic nut butters from Dastony. Expect of course, this one is nut-free since it’s made with raw sesame seeds. I basically took one of my favorite smoothie combos of all time (pears and almond butter) and turned it into an allergen-friendly, mostly-organic protein shake. Continue reading

Dastony Review & a Pear, Sesame & Vanilla Shake @anotherhungryvegan.com
First, I had to give you a preview of the Sesame Tahini itself. Wow, is this stuff good! Unlike most tahini you’ll find in the store this is actually made with raw sesame seeds. It’s also lower in sodium than your standard tahini yet it has a richness and a flavor that makes it really versatile. There’s something about this tahini that makes it so you can eat even the tiniest amount and be satisfied. Plus, the jars are portioned in a way that you don’t end up having all this extra stuff lying around to just eat with a spoon. I’ve been wanting to use some of this particular tahini from Dastony in hummus, but I decided that a smoothie would be more fun!

Dastony Review & a Pear, Sesame & Vanilla Shake @anotherhungryvegan.com
The best part of this smoothie? The Bee Free Honee and tahini create an amazing balance of savory and sweet. It’s a great one to serve to kids and adults alike, plus you don’t have to worry about any nut allergies! I also added some Growing Naturals Vanilla Blast protein for an extra boost. In total, this smoothie has about 30G of protein. Can you believe it? As I’ve mentioned in my previous post, the Growing Naturals Giveaway is still going on, so be sure to enter if you haven’t already!

Dastony Review & a Pear, Sesame & Vanilla Shake @anotherhungryvegan.com
As always I recommend everyone to try this with the ingredients that they have on hand. However, using this high-quality Sesame Tahini and organic brown rice protein will have a slightly different taste. The only thing you might not have on hand is the honee, but no worries! You can easily sub in agave, coconut sugar or dates to help sweeten things up. If you’re interested in purchasing Dastony, you can do so on the Dastony website. Which nut or seed butter are you wanting to try first?

Growing Naturals Rice Drink & Giveaway

Growing Naturals Rice Drink Giveaway @anotherhungryvegan.com
From my Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest page and this blog, it’s pretty evident that I love smoothies and protein shakes. Why, you may ask? Because they are quick to make, flavorful and a great way to pack in more protein, fiber, hydration and different nutrients. Whether it is in the morning, afternoon or evening a blended drink always sounds appealing to me. Recently, Growing Naturals reached out to me to try and review their various plant-based proteins and rice drinks. Keep reading on to find out what I thought of their Rice Drinks and get 50% OFF your order so you can try them for yourself. Plus, find out how you can enter to win a selection of your choice of rice and pea protein powders, rice milk powder, a shaker bottle and signature tote bag! Continue reading

Growing Naturals Rice Drink Giveaway @anotherhungryvegan.com
In the past, I have tried rice milks and they really didn’t appeal to me all that much. Many typical rice drinks have very little protein (if any), lots of sugar, are super watery in consistency and don’t last that long in the fridge. Luckily, these Rice Drinks from Growing Naturals don’t have any of those issues. They are made with 8-9g of whole grain and sprouted brown rice protein, are low in sugar and fat, and they can be stored in your cupboards and taken on the go.

Growing Naturals Rice Drink Giveaway @anotherhungryvegan.com
The Velvety Chocolate organic Rice Drink powder was the first one I went for because…well it’s chocolate. I mixed this up in a shaker bottle with about 10oz of cold, filtered water and poured it into a glass. I remember this craze that went on a couple years ago where people were claiming that chocolate milk was the perfect post-workout drink. However, I believe that this chocolate-flavored rice drink is way better for you, is easier to digest, and no animals were harmed in the process to get the milk. When the powder is mixed with cold water, it really does taste like a milky chocolate drink. However, you can also use it in smoothies, shakes, and even hot cocoa to add a little extra protein into your favorite drinks.

Growing Naturals Rice Drink Giveaway @anotherhungryvegan.com
The Creamy Vanilla also makes a smooth vanilla-flavored drink that you can drink on its own or add to your favorite smoothies. For one of my latest recipes featuring some February product favorites including this Rice Drink powder, you can click here.

Growing Naturals Rice Drink Giveaway @anotherhungryvegan.com
I’ve also heard you can use this Rice Drink protein in baking, such as in recipes that call for non-dairy milk. Unfortunately I took the easy way out and bought some pre-made dough from Hampton Creek. But, I found that the Silky Smooth Original is a great milk alternative to drink with your favorite desserts. The Rice Drink packs some clean protein so you don’t over-do it on the sweets that you might have with it.

Growing Naturals Rice Drink Giveaway @anotherhungryvegan.com
The Rice Drink powders also can be added to your morning oats or cereal. Just use a scoop and 8-12oz of water and you’ve got a protein boosted breakfast when you don’t feel like making a smoothie. These overnight oats kept me full for a long time, and the powder added a creamy texture but I still couldn’t even tell there was added protein in there.

Mocha Cherry Maca Protein Shake

Mocha Cherry Maca Protein Shake Recipe @anotherhungryvegan.com
I’ve been just a little obsessed with protein shakes lately. Ok, I’m pretty much always obsessed with them. If you haven’t gathered it already, I love coming up with creative smoothies recipes with flavor combos as unique as possible. However, I also like to use healthy ingredients I have on hand while putting a fun spin on the recipes. This high-in-protein shake happens to feature Mushroom Matrix, as another part of my recipe series this week that includes their Fit Matrix. Check out my original review of their product if you’re curious about the benefits of mushroom powders. Otherwise, keep reading on for this fun and fabulous recipe! Continue reading

Mocha Cherry Maca Protein Shake Recipe @anotherhungryvegan.com
In addition to Fit Matrix, I also added some other superfoods into this smoothie. There’s a company local to Colorado called KOLAT and they make Superfood Fusions in the form of nut butters that come in 4 different flavors. For this recipe, I used their Cherry Vanilla Almond to add protein, healthy fat and a whole list of other nutrients. Just to name a few, KOLAT’s superfood fusions contain vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, Biotin, Folic Acid, Pantothenic Acid, C, D2, E, K. I doubt that your standard jar of almond butter has any of those in it!

Mocha Cherry Maca Protein Shake Recipe @anotherhungryvegan.comThe Mocha Chameleon Cold Brew adds a pleasant coffee flavor with just a hint of cocoa to this treat. I don’t drink coffee every single day, but when I do I gravitate towards organic and fair trade varieties. These are not only healthier options, but they are also much more ethically sound and sustainable. I also used Sprout Living’s Chocolate Maca powder in this recipe, which is a favorite of mine for sure. I love the fact that it has such a malted chocolate taste that makes any smoothie taste like a milk chocolate milkshake. Plus, I can’t complain about the added protein either. As someone who does a lot of smoothies, it’s so nice to have an easy way to get in extra protein, fats and other nutrients that I don’t get out of my all-fruit smoothies.

Mocha Cherry Maca Protein Shake Recipe @anotherhungryvegan.com
Go ahead, make this shake. I know you want to! Even if you don’t have the same ingredients like the superfood nut butters or mocha cold brew coffee, there are simple substitutions that you can make. However, if you’re looking to try some new ingredients to supercharge your smoothies, the ones that I mentioned in this post are some of my favorites! I think sometimes it’s worth it to make a splurge on food purchases. Especially if they taste great, add extra nutrients into your diet (Vitamin B12 being the big one), and give you more energy!

Tahini Espresso Protein Shake

IMG_1056
As promised, here is the first of a few recipes I will be featuring using Mushroom Matrix’s Fit. This protein shake happens to include a few of my favorite brands and flavors all together in one delicious (and totally healthy) post-workout shake. Who would’ve thought that things like tahini, coffee, pears, bananas and mushroom powder would go together? I wouldn’t have at first but trust me, this was one extremely happy accident that I discovered. I even boosted it with some Growing Naturals Vanilla Blast rice protein, so this entire smoothie has almost 30g of plant-based protein. The added Mushroom Matrix makes it complete with an added boost of immunity, while helping fight fatigue and increase your fitness performance. You don’t even have to drink this shake after a workout, but I can promise that it’s a super satisfying treat to have after your morning gym session or run outside. Let’s face it, we all want to get in more exercise now that the New Year is upon us. This decadent shake makes it all worth it! Continue reading

First off, I am a big fan of throwing some organic and fair trade coffee into a smoothie every now and then. Chameleon Cold Brew happens to be one of my favorites of all time, whether it’s poured over ice or enjoyed in a frozen coffee shake. I do recommend that if you make this recipe, that you have it in the morning because it does contain some caffeine. Though, I find that because this smoothie also has some fruit, healthy fats, and added protein, it doesn’t give you a crazy buzz or jittery feeling that coffee can give some people on an empty stomach.

IMG_9400For the full recipe, just keep scrolling. However, if you want to learn more about Mushroom Matrix’s products like the one featured in this recipe check out my review first. You can modify the ingredients in this smoothie if you don’t have all of them on hand, but I truly recommend the protein and mushroom powders to aid your fitness goals and overall wellness. Sometimes, it’s worth it to splurge a little on products that will make you feel your best. Plus, they make quite a spectacular smoothie when combined!

Coracao Confections Almond Butter and Nib Spread
This is another smoothie using Sprout Living’s EPIC Chocolate Maca Protein. I am obsessed with adding this to smoothies for that malty cocoa taste it adds. This protein is raw, organic, and made with sprouted brown rice. I find that it digests really easily and it’s a great coffee-free energy boost in the morning.

I also got the chance to try out Coracao Confection’s decadent Rawmond & Nibs Spread in this recipe. Coracao sells a wide variety of excellent, healthy chocolates that you can tell are made with nothing but love. The ingredients in here include raw almond butter, cacao nibs, coconut sugar, cacao butter, maca, and Himalayan pink salt. It’s great on its own, but I love adding it to a smoothie to give it a more rich taste. Plus I can’t complain about the added protein and healthy fats. I’ll be doing a review sometime in the new year featuring Coracao’s chocolates, truffles and other products so stay tuned!

Maca Chocolate Power Smoothie on Anotherhungryvegan.com
What I really love about this smoothie is that it’s actually a great recovery drink after exercise, or if you wake up needing an extra boost of energy (without the coffee). The coconut water is rich in electrolytes to help with muscle cramping I find that it’s perfect to enjoy during the holidays in place of indulging on vegan chocolates, cookies and cake (although everything in moderation is fine in my book). You can absolutely try some variations on this smoothie, such as using peanut butter instead of the almond butter or even raw cashews or almonds to make your own milk in the blender. Next time, I will definitely add some mint extract to make it more festive!
