Hazelnut Hemp Mocha Protein Shake

A rich, protein-packed and energizing Hazelnut Hemp Mocha Shake to start your day! Vegan and Gluten-freeCoffee and chocolate…am I right? What is it about that sweet and rich combo that makes everything better? When you combine those flavors with hazelnut, there’s just no going back. I was inspired by my favorite flavor combos to make this secretly-healthy Hazelnut Mocha Shake, which is boosted with some Hemp protein. Manitoba Harvest recently released their line of hemp protein called Hemp Pro 70. The chocolate and vanilla flavors have both been some of my favorites lately and guess what…Manitoba Harvest agreed to collaborate on a giveaway with me for a bag of their chocolate protein! Scroll down for details on how you can enter to win, and get the recipe for this delicious protein shake! Continue reading

A rich, protein-packed and energizing Hazelnut Hemp Mocha Shake to start your day! Vegan and Gluten-freeA rich, protein-packed and energizing Hazelnut Hemp Mocha Shake to start your day! Vegan and Gluten-freeHemp Pro 70 is super clean, allergen-friendly, and really tasty. Not only does it have a great deal of plant protein, it also have the benefits of those healthy omega fatty acids that keep you feeling full, especially after a tough workout. The chocolate flavor is my personal favorite, which is why I’m really excited to get to give a bag away to one lucky winner! I also added some Fit Matrix, which aids in workout recovery and immunity, plus some Dark Hazelnut Spread from Golo Foods for flavor and added protein.

A rich, protein-packed and energizing Hazelnut Hemp Mocha Shake to start your day! Vegan and Gluten-freeThe coffee part of this shake is totally optional, but it does give it that blended espresso and/or frappuccino quality. You could also use decaf coffee or a coffee alternative (such as herbal coffee or something similar) if you’re avoiding caffeine. Personally, I like using cold brew like Chameleon Cold Brew or the coffee concentrate from Trader Joe’s. I find that combining coffee with frozen fruit, protein and healthy fats makes it easier to digest and you don’t feel super jittery afterwards.

And now for the giveaway that you’ve been waiting for…see below and be sure to follow all the instructions. This giveaway is open to residents in the United States and Canada and it will run from Tuesday May 19th until Sunday May 24th at 11:59PM MST.

Acai Berry Shortcake Smoothie

A sweet (secretly healthy) Acai Berry Shortcake Smoothie @anotherhungryvegan.comWhat’s better than dessert for breakfast? Dessert for breakfast that’s still healthy, full of protein and fiber, that offers a boost of immunity and energy. Of course I’m talking about a smoothie, and this is another one that uses organic acai juice from Zola as well as my classic smoothie add-ins. I know you might be wondering, “is this a snack smoothie or a meal-replacement” and that’s really up to you! You could easily split this smoothie in half with someone for a lighter treat, but personally I like to enjoy it all to myself. Don’t forget to enter your favorite smoothie recipes in the Zola Juice Shop contest over on their Facebook. One of the prizes is a professional Vitamix blender, and I swear by mine when I’m making these super creamy shakes and smoothies. Continue reading

A sweet (secretly healthy) Acai Berry Shortcake Smoothie @anotherhungryvegan.com
This smoothie is actually inspired by one I posted on this blog a while back. That one was with strawberries, but I decided to kick it up a notch with Zola’s Blueberry Acai juice and frozen mixed berries. What’s great about this smoothie is that it’s also banana-free, just in case you have an allergy or aversion to bananas. I realize that a lot of my smoothies use bananas, which works for me, but I do have requests from time to time to create some with alternatives. I also made this a super smoothie with some Growing Naturals Vanilla Blast protein powder and my Fit Matrix powder. These are both optional in terms of flavor, but they have great benefits such as protein, energy and immunity boosts.

A sweet (secretly healthy) Acai Berry Shortcake Smoothie @anotherhungryvegan.com
The Blueberry Acai Juice from Zola is what really makes this recipe spectacular, along with the creaminess of the blended raw cashews and oats combined with frozen berries. I chose to add the protein powder for a little extra sweetness, though it does help to make this smoothie more filling and with a thicker consistency. Give this smoothie a try for yourself, customizing it if needed, and let me know how you chose to make it! Stay tuned for another recipe in the near future where I make an additional acai-flavored treat!

Mocha Cherry Maca Protein Shake

Mocha Cherry Maca Protein Shake Recipe @anotherhungryvegan.com
I’ve been just a little obsessed with protein shakes lately. Ok, I’m pretty much always obsessed with them. If you haven’t gathered it already, I love coming up with creative smoothies recipes with flavor combos as unique as possible. However, I also like to use healthy ingredients I have on hand while putting a fun spin on the recipes. This high-in-protein shake happens to feature Mushroom Matrix, as another part of my recipe series this week that includes their Fit Matrix. Check out my original review of their product if you’re curious about the benefits of mushroom powders. Otherwise, keep reading on for this fun and fabulous recipe! Continue reading

Mocha Cherry Maca Protein Shake Recipe @anotherhungryvegan.com
In addition to Fit Matrix, I also added some other superfoods into this smoothie. There’s a company local to Colorado called KOLAT and they make Superfood Fusions in the form of nut butters that come in 4 different flavors. For this recipe, I used their Cherry Vanilla Almond to add protein, healthy fat and a whole list of other nutrients. Just to name a few, KOLAT’s superfood fusions contain vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, Biotin, Folic Acid, Pantothenic Acid, C, D2, E, K. I doubt that your standard jar of almond butter has any of those in it!

Mocha Cherry Maca Protein Shake Recipe @anotherhungryvegan.comThe Mocha Chameleon Cold Brew adds a pleasant coffee flavor with just a hint of cocoa to this treat. I don’t drink coffee every single day, but when I do I gravitate towards organic and fair trade varieties. These are not only healthier options, but they are also much more ethically sound and sustainable. I also used Sprout Living’s Chocolate Maca powder in this recipe, which is a favorite of mine for sure. I love the fact that it has such a malted chocolate taste that makes any smoothie taste like a milk chocolate milkshake. Plus, I can’t complain about the added protein either. As someone who does a lot of smoothies, it’s so nice to have an easy way to get in extra protein, fats and other nutrients that I don’t get out of my all-fruit smoothies.

Mocha Cherry Maca Protein Shake Recipe @anotherhungryvegan.com
Go ahead, make this shake. I know you want to! Even if you don’t have the same ingredients like the superfood nut butters or mocha cold brew coffee, there are simple substitutions that you can make. However, if you’re looking to try some new ingredients to supercharge your smoothies, the ones that I mentioned in this post are some of my favorites! I think sometimes it’s worth it to make a splurge on food purchases. Especially if they taste great, add extra nutrients into your diet (Vitamin B12 being the big one), and give you more energy!

Find out why mushrooms are the new superfoods this year in my latest review, and as a bonus get the recipe for a fantastic Tahini Espresso Protein Shake. So, what are the benefits of mushrooms? After doing some research online, I was amazed at how many healing properties they have. Of course, we are talking the legal mushrooms of the non hallucinogenic variety (just to get things straight). Some of these benefits include heightened immunity, sustained energy and increased focus. Mushroom Matrix has a few different varieties, from single species to mushroom blends, to fit everyone’s unique needs. Whether you are focused on beauty, immunity or detoxing in the New Year, there is a product that has been customized just for you.

Find out why mushrooms are the new superfoods this year in my latest review, and as a bonus get the recipe for a fantastic Tahini Espresso Protein Shake.Mushroom Matrix sent me their NRGmatrix to try first. I was under the assumption at first that it’s solely to be used a pre-workout energizer, but it is also recommended to help prepare for travel, studying and life in general. Since NRGmatrix is packed with antioxidants and vitamins, it’s a really good idea to have some when you are going to be in a high-stress situation and are in need of stronger immunity.  Mushroom Matrix’s products are a fantastic way to kick off your fitness goals and New Year’s resolutions to be healthier, fitter and happier. Always as a caution, consult your doctor if needed before starting a new fitness routine. Remember that these products are to be included with a healthy diet and are not complete substitutes for food. When you combine them with a balanced diet and exercise, however you will start noticing the positive affects rather quickly!

It does contain some caffeine, but as the company mentions, the source is derived from plants so you don’t get a jittery feeling or crash after it wears off. I decided to try it as a pre-workout drink in the morning and I was pleasantly surprised. I’ve actually tried some pre-workout energizers in the past and they were honestly not that great in taste and many left me feeling really shaky and buzzed from the caffeine. Luckily, NRGmatrix tasted great and gave me the focus and energy boost that I needed. It is not a product of theirs that I will use every single day, but rather when I am in need of a little extra push to power through my workout.

This one includes both Cordyceps and Reishi mushrooms to improve oxygen delivery to your cells and to fight fatigue. This is a great option for athletes and generally active people to include in their routine because it also helps with muscle repair and overall vitality. As recommended, I blend one teaspoon of the powder in with my post-workout smoothies for a boost. What’s great is that I can’t even taste any hint of mushroom in the smoothie, but I feel better knowing that it’s in there. Here you can find just one of the recipes I’ve come up with using the Fit Matrix, and stay tuned for a few more recipes that will be coming soon!

Tahini Espresso Protein Shake

IMG_1056
As promised, here is the first of a few recipes I will be featuring using Mushroom Matrix’s Fit. This protein shake happens to include a few of my favorite brands and flavors all together in one delicious (and totally healthy) post-workout shake. Who would’ve thought that things like tahini, coffee, pears, bananas and mushroom powder would go together? I wouldn’t have at first but trust me, this was one extremely happy accident that I discovered. I even boosted it with some Growing Naturals Vanilla Blast rice protein, so this entire smoothie has almost 30g of plant-based protein. The added Mushroom Matrix makes it complete with an added boost of immunity, while helping fight fatigue and increase your fitness performance. You don’t even have to drink this shake after a workout, but I can promise that it’s a super satisfying treat to have after your morning gym session or run outside. Let’s face it, we all want to get in more exercise now that the New Year is upon us. This decadent shake makes it all worth it! Continue reading

First off, I am a big fan of throwing some organic and fair trade coffee into a smoothie every now and then. Chameleon Cold Brew happens to be one of my favorites of all time, whether it’s poured over ice or enjoyed in a frozen coffee shake. I do recommend that if you make this recipe, that you have it in the morning because it does contain some caffeine. Though, I find that because this smoothie also has some fruit, healthy fats, and added protein, it doesn’t give you a crazy buzz or jittery feeling that coffee can give some people on an empty stomach.

IMG_9400For the full recipe, just keep scrolling. However, if you want to learn more about Mushroom Matrix’s products like the one featured in this recipe check out my review first. You can modify the ingredients in this smoothie if you don’t have all of them on hand, but I truly recommend the protein and mushroom powders to aid your fitness goals and overall wellness. Sometimes, it’s worth it to splurge a little on products that will make you feel your best. Plus, they make quite a spectacular smoothie when combined!
