Hazelnut Hemp Mocha Protein Shake

A rich, protein-packed and energizing Hazelnut Hemp Mocha Shake to start your day! Vegan and Gluten-freeCoffee and chocolate…am I right? What is it about that sweet and rich combo that makes everything better? When you combine those flavors with hazelnut, there’s just no going back. I was inspired by my favorite flavor combos to make this secretly-healthy Hazelnut Mocha Shake, which is boosted with some Hemp protein. Manitoba Harvest recently released their line of hemp protein called Hemp Pro 70. The chocolate and vanilla flavors have both been some of my favorites lately and guess what…Manitoba Harvest agreed to collaborate on a giveaway with me for a bag of their chocolate protein! Scroll down for details on how you can enter to win, and get the recipe for this delicious protein shake! Continue reading

A rich, protein-packed and energizing Hazelnut Hemp Mocha Shake to start your day! Vegan and Gluten-freeA rich, protein-packed and energizing Hazelnut Hemp Mocha Shake to start your day! Vegan and Gluten-freeHemp Pro 70 is super clean, allergen-friendly, and really tasty. Not only does it have a great deal of plant protein, it also have the benefits of those healthy omega fatty acids that keep you feeling full, especially after a tough workout. The chocolate flavor is my personal favorite, which is why I’m really excited to get to give a bag away to one lucky winner! I also added some Fit Matrix, which aids in workout recovery and immunity, plus some Dark Hazelnut Spread from Golo Foods for flavor and added protein.

A rich, protein-packed and energizing Hazelnut Hemp Mocha Shake to start your day! Vegan and Gluten-freeThe coffee part of this shake is totally optional, but it does give it that blended espresso and/or frappuccino quality. You could also use decaf coffee or a coffee alternative (such as herbal coffee or something similar) if you’re avoiding caffeine. Personally, I like using cold brew like Chameleon Cold Brew or the coffee concentrate from Trader Joe’s. I find that combining coffee with frozen fruit, protein and healthy fats makes it easier to digest and you don’t feel super jittery afterwards.

And now for the giveaway that you’ve been waiting for…see below and be sure to follow all the instructions. This giveaway is open to residents in the United States and Canada and it will run from Tuesday May 19th until Sunday May 24th at 11:59PM MST.

A fantastic Mocha Acai protein shake made with organic ingredients that get your day started off with a boost of energy! @anotherhungryvegan.com
If you’ve ever tried acai and mocha before, you’d know it’s a terrific combo. This is a protein-packed shake that uses the Vanilla Blast Organic Brown Rice Powder made by Growing Naturals. What I love about this powder is that it’s made with sprouted, organic ingredients, is allergen-friendly and boosts a whopping 24g of protein in just one scoop! The vanilla flavor helps add sweetness to smoothies and shakes, and the powder has such a smooth consistency that I find myself adding even half a scoop to a lot of my blended drinks.

A fantastic Mocha Acai protein shake made with organic ingredients that get your day started off with a boost of energy! @anotherhungryvegan.comThis smoothie also includes Mocha coffee concentrate from Chameleon Cold Brew. As usual, this coffee is completely organic and fair-trade along with being super delicious even on its own! In fact, this entire smoothie is organic as long as you use bananas that are. Some of the other ingredients that I used are Maca Powder, stevia, and of course Acai Juice from Zola. I know coffee and acai berry doesn’t sound like the greatest pairing but trust me, it really works in this smoothie!

A fantastic Mocha Acai protein shake made with organic ingredients that get your day started off with a boost of energy! @anotherhungryvegan.comThe acai juice and protein powder add a sweetness that helps balance out the more robust, rich flavors of the maca powder and the coffee. Just a fair warning though, this is definitely a morning/breakfast shake. Unless you don’t get jittery or feel a strong buzz from caffeine, I would advise you not to make this smoothie close to bedtime. The acai, cold brew and maca all act as great energizers, but if you find that you are very sensitive then maybe go easy on those. You can use a decaffeinated coffee and leave out or use less of the maca powder. Feel free to experiment until you get your perfect smoothie in terms of flavor and consistency!

Salted Caramel Mocha Protein Shake

I recently won a giveaway prize from Eat. Drink. Shrink that was a specialty product made by Coracao Confections. If you’re not familiar with them, they make some of the most decadent-sounding and looking treats made with raw and natural ingredients. I couldn’t wait to experiment with their Salted Almond Caramel Spread, especially in an ultra-rich holiday shake. If you’re curious about the ingredients in this spread, they are Organic Raw Cashew Butter, Organic Raw Almonds, Organic Coconut Sugar, Organic Raw Agave, Organic Yacon Syrup, Organic Raw Cacao Butter & Himalayan Crystal Salt. If you’re interested in trying some for yourself (trust me, it’s worth it), order from their online store. Continue reading

This protein shake also features Chameleon Cold Brew, one of my favorite fair trade and organic cold brew coffee concentrates. I love putting some of this into a smoothie because it doesn’t take much, and you can get a nice coffee-flavor and caffeine boost. Coffee smoothies and shakes are one of my favorite ways to enjoy coffee because I don’t get as jittery and it’s a nice way to combine breakfast with your morning cup.

Are you ready for a break from all the Pumpkin Spice treats of the season? Why not try a Salted Caramel Mocha shake? This is different than your standard milkshake or frozen coffee drink though. You won’t find any dairy or any weird chemical-ingredients in here, and thanks to Sprout Living’s Chocolate Maca powder, you get a protein boost too! Put down the frappuccino and make one of these for a rich, post-workout treat (Or for breakfast, no judging here)!

REBBL Super Herbs

REBBL makes these Super Herbs drinks, made with organic and fair-trade ingredients. Each of these contains powerful nutrients that are meant to help awaken, de-stress and re-energize you as you drink them. I stumbled upon these at Whole Foods one day, and they were actually on sale! I couldn’t wait to try these out because let’s face it, the packaging is pretty awesome and my curiosity got the better of me! Continue reading

IMG_1622-2Since I’m a true-chocolate lover I couldn’t resist the Reishi Chocolate flavor. This one has a nice milky taste that reminds me of any good chocolate milk. There’s just a hint of earthiness, but it’s not unpleasant in any way. This was great on its own but I think it would also make a delicious smoothie with a banana too.

IMG_1919This Ashwagandha Chai was incredibly flavorful as well! It wasn’t as spicy as say, Bhakti Chai, but it had a nice and sweet taste that I love in an iced chai. What was also nice about this is that I didn’t feel jittery or over-caffeinated after I drank it. If you are looking for a healthier chai tea you should definitely try this!

IMG_1984Lastly the Maca Mocha, and I honestly saved the best for last! This had a clear note of coffee, however it’s completely coffee free! It uses herbs like dandelion and ingredients like maca to give it a more robust coffee flavor, without the strong caffeine buzz. This still gave me energy due to the maca but it was in a subtle way so that I didn’t crash later on. The chocolate/cacao aspect was really nice as well, and I actually liked this one better than the Reishi Chocolate drink. You should be able to find these at most Whole Foods, and hopefully other natural foods stores in the near future!400x84_g1
