Hemp Hearts All Day + Giveaway

IMG_6477As 2017 is coming to an end, I’m already eagerly anticipating the top superfoods for the new year. I’m confident that hemp foods will definitely be included on that list, for so many great reasons! I’m sharing my latest favorite ways to enjoy Manitoba Harvest Hemp Hearts, and giving you the chance to win a special prize pack of your own. IMG_6328Hemp has often been referred to a super plant, for the health benefits it offers while being a more sustainable option for farming. Hemp Hearts in particular are full of nutritional benefits, I was actually amazed when I looked at the nutrition facts label on the bag! They’re higher in protein and lower in carbs than other seeds like chia or flax, and they contain healthy fats (including those Omega-3 fatty acids that we’re always hearing about). I also find them to be a lot tastier, offering a light and nutty flavor that makes them versatile in both sweet and savory recipes. 

One recipe that I make a lot with Hemp Hearts is hemp milk, simply by blending 2 Tbs of these hemp seeds in 1 cup of water. You can also add your own sweetener, vanilla, or even cinnamon, but I like to use this as a base for smoothies, baked goods and pancakes.

IMG_6311Here’s a really simple recipe for these Hemp Hearts Pancakes (adapted from Running on Real Food). These serve about 2 people (or one very hungry person!). It’s a great way to get in some extra protein, fiber and fruit to start the day, and it doesn’t take too much time either!


  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup hemp milk (blend 2 Tbs hemp seeds with 1 cup water. Leave unstrained)

Method: Mix all dry ingredients together in a large bowl. Slowly add the hemp milk and mix everything together, adding a tiny bit of water if the batter is still too thick. If you’d like, add some sliced bananas or blueberries to the mix before heating. Scoop batter into a preheated pan over medium heat, and cook on each side for a couple of minutes until done. Top with fresh fruit, vegan butter (optional), maple syrup and a sprinkle of Hemp Hearts.

IMG_6408 IMG_6432For a savory recipe I decided to try out Hemp Hummus, and it’s probably my new favorite type of hummus! Manitoba Harvest has a great recipe on their website, that I modified only slightly by using extra tahini and water to make it oil-free. I could see this being a fun recipe to customize further by adding things like red peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, eggplant, and additional spices. Hemp Hummus is a great way to get in some extra nutrients like protein and healthy fats that you don’t always get with most store-bought hummus.

This hummus is great when served with freshly cut carrots and bell peppers, but I also love dipping things like pretzels or crackers in it. I think it would make a great spread on sandwiches with lots of veggies, and when thinned out by blending it with more water it could definitely work as a sauce. I can’t wait to try this hummus alone in even more recipes!

IMG_6493One of my favorite recipes of all of these mentioned in this post happens to be this Roasted Red Pepper Pasta with Hemp Hearts. You can definitely mix hemp hearts in pre-made sauce for some added protein and crunch, but I wanted to take it a step further and make my own creamy hemp seed-based sauce:


  • 2 roasted red peppers (to save time, I used jarred peppers)
  • 4 Tbs Hemp Hearts
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 2 Tbs nutritional yeast
  • pinch of cayenne, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tsp salt

Method: Start to boil water for 4-5 ounces of your favorite pasta (I recommend penne), and make the sauce by blending all ingredients together until you get a smooth, creamy consistency. If the sauce seems too thick, add a little water to thin it out. Prepare pasta according to package instructions, strain and pour back into the pot over low heat. Pour sauce and add desired ingredients (I recommend spinach and cherry tomatoes), then mix together until warmed. Serve immediately and top with extra Hemp Hearts for added crunch.

No-Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheesecake Bites

NO-BAKE CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER CHEESECAKE BITESRecently, I teamed up with Amazing Grass to come up with a recipe featuring their Chocolate Peanut Butter flavored Protein Superfood. Even though the weather is finally starting to cool down, I still wanted to create an easy no-bake recipe that likely uses ingredients that you already have on-hand. An added challenge was making something that was gluten-free, soy-free, oil-free, vegan and obviously tasty! I’ve been pleasantly surprised by this new product from Amazing Grass, since it’s not only a protein powder but is also packed with superfoods and other nutrients. The flavor is exactly as it sounds, but neither the chocolate nor the peanut butter is too overpowering. This product does have a little stevia in it, but I found it to be a lot more subtle than other protein powders I’ve tried in the past. When I’m not making no-bake recipes like this, my go-to way to enjoy Amazing Grass is to throw it in a blender with a little non-dairy milk, frozen bananas and ice. The nutrition facts are impressive per serving and you can’t go wrong with this flavor, especially!

img_4044No-Bake Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheesecake Bites
These individual-sized cheesecake bites are a cinch to make and use only a few ingredients. They are gluten-free, vegan, soy-free and even have some hidden fruits and veggies in them! Your friends will be amazed when they find out how simple, yet delicious this recipe is!

Ingredients – Crust:
1/4 cup oats
1/4 cup peanuts
1 Tbs maple syrup

Ingredients – Filling:
1/2 avocado
1 serving Amazing Grass Protein Superfood, Chocolate Peanut Butter
1 small banana
1/4 cup peanuts
2-4 Tbs almond milk

1. Place the oats and peanuts in a high speed blender and mix until you get a flour-like consistency. Add in the maple syrup and continue blending until the mixture sticks together.
2. Using a cupcake pan, place the crust mixture into 4 wells of a cupcake pan making sure to press into the bottom of the pan. Place in the freezer while preparing the filling.
3. Put all ingredients for the filling into a blender, and blend until you get a smooth and creamy consistency. Start with less almond milk and add more if needed. Pour this mixture into the cupcake pan on top of the crust.
4. Freeze the cupcake pan with the filling and crust for 1-2 hours so it can set. Remove from the freezer and use a butter knife or something similar to remove the bites from the pan if needed. Allow to thaw for 5-10 minutes before eating and enjoy!

*Note: these are best when enjoyed straight from the freezer. Thawing and re-freezing is not recommended.

Review of Amrita Bars on anotherhungryvegan.comThe first bar I tried happened to be the Apricot Strawberry. When I first opened the package, the smell actually reminded me of a PB&J sandwich (despite being completely free of peanuts and gluten). I think I was picking up the sunflower seeds and tahini, which often give off a rich and nutty flavor. Once I tasted the bar I could taste the apricots as well as the strawberries and dates mixed in. I couldn’t taste the chia flour or brown rice and they didn’t seem to affect the texture at all. Overall, I would say this was a great bar to start out with!

Review of Amrita Bars on anotherhungryvegan.comI’m not sure what paradise would taste like, but it must be something like this Pineapple Chia bar. First off, with it being summer I find that these bars all have really appropriate flavors. Along with pineapple, this treat also contains cranberries, sunflower and sesame seeds, chia seeds, coconut and brown rice protein. It’s great that a little bar like this also has the benefit of omega 3 and 6 essential fatty acids, along with 4g of fiber and 7g of protein!

Review of Amrita Bars on anotherhungryvegan.comOne of my favorite bars, not surprisingly, was the Apple Cinnamon. This seriously tasted like apple pie in bar form. What I love about Amrita bars is that you get so much fresh flavor, and all without added sweeteners other than the ones in dried fruit. I find that these bars are similar in texture to Larabars, but the combination of seeds, brown rice protein and dried fruit makes them a lot more filling. These definitely are more of a snack than a meal replacement, but they are really satisfying in-between meals!

When it comes to dried fruit, mango and coconut are some of my favorites for their ultra-sweet flavors. Because this bar is also balanced with a mix of seeds, you don’t get as much of a sugar rush as plain fruit can often deliver for some people. This bar would be also be delicious if you blended it into a smoothie (seriously), or if you cut it up and placed it on top of a smoothie with banana, mango and coconut.

I was worried that the Cranberry Raisin bar might be a little sour, but I think it was another winner! The texture reminds me a little of an oatmeal raisin cookie and I’m not complaining! I notice that many of the bars are made with similar ingredients, but with the addition of the special dried fruits they really take on a unique taste. Plus, they don’t make a mess when you eat them and are very portable and for a snack that also happens to be raw.

Review of Amrita Bars on anotherhungryvegan.comLast but not least…the Chocolate Maca bar. Where oh where do I begin with this one? Cacao and maca are an incredible combination,  and this bar proves that. These superfoods are great for giving you energy as well as helping with hormonal issues. Another fantastic thing about this chocolatey bar is that it doesn’t melt in the heat, unlike many energy/protein bars made with chocolate. Though the flavor sounds more like a sweet dessert, this actually makes a great morning or mid-morning snack. Instead of reaching for coffee or energy drinks, I would recommend picking up one of these instead.

IMG_0007-1Fresh N’ Lean has a menu that rotates, so you always get the opportunity to try a wide variety of meals. You have the option to order a meal plan, either 5 or 7 days, based on how many meals you would like. Fresh N’ Lean also offers à la carte dishes, as an alternative if you aren’t ready to commit to a meal plan just yet. This is a great way to try out the meals before subscribing to a delivery service, and you get to preview the dishes and get their nutritional facts/ingredients before placing your order. 

IMG_0033-1One of the first meals that I tried fromFresh N’ Lean was the Blueberry Cinnamon Oatmeal. This was filled with organic ingredients such as oats, maple syrup, walnuts, blueberries, raisins, almonds, dates, vanilla and cinnamon. This meal was extra filling, energizing and easy to digest. The best part? It tasted incredible (like something you would get at a restaurant), and there were no artificial ingredients or preservatives added. This means that you have to consume the foods by the “best by” date on the package, but that’s the whole point! These meals are so tasty and easy to prepare that there really is no good reason for why they would sit in your fridge and go bad.

IMG_0304-1 The next meal that I tried for dinner was the Fiesta Black Beans. These were made with black beans, cabbage, bell peppers and other veggies. Now, I have to say that the initial color wasn’t super appetizing because the black beans were mixed with the veggies. However, the aroma was wonderful, and so was the taste! The other people in my household were wondering what was cooking because it filled the kitchen with such a great smell. Fresh N’ Lean recommends adding your own spices to these dishes, although I thought they were plenty flavorful without them. I do like that they give that option because everyone’s tastes are different. These would’ve been great with some salsa, avocado or hot sauce too!

IMG_0089-1For breakfast the next day, I tried the Mixed Berry Chia Pudding. This one has organic chia seeds, maple syrup, blueberries, raspberries, almond milk and sea salt. The directions recommend heating this up, either by microwaving or other methods which is great for people who don’t have a microwave. However I think you could also eat this as a chilled pudding as either a breakfast or a dessert. It was great warmed up because the flavors of the berries infused the entire chia mixture, and it was just as filling as oatmeal. I want to start incorporating more chia puddings into my diet

IMG_0384-1The next meal I tried for dinner was the Smoky Kidney Beans with Dino Kale. Along with the Fiesta Black Beans, these had an incredible aroma. For a dish with such simple flavors, it was surprisingly tasty and really filling. As Fresh N’ Lean describes about their meals, they are not about being low-calorie or low-carb, but rather about being nutrient-rich. This one has a ton of protein and fiber while being low in fat and (more importantly) chemical/preservative free!

IMG_0346-1IMG_0357-1I really enjoyed the Hearty Granola, which actually packs 2 servings in one container. Normally I don’t go for granola because a lot of brand add extra unnecessary ingredients such as honey, oils or even extra flavorings. For this granola, you obviously don’t need to heat it up to prepare it. This is one of the few meals from Fresh N’ Lean that will have you add your own ingredients. They recommend non-dairy milk and some fruit to make it a full meal. For this serving, I used half the container of granola with some unsweetened flax milk and fresh berries. Talk about a quick breakfast!

IMG_0607-1We’ve been getting a lot of rain lately, despite it being spring/summer so these warm meals have been ultra-comforting (but still totally healthy). These Indian Spiced Lentils came in a surprisingly large serving size, in fact it was almost tricky to finish these off. However, this meal packs 20g of protein, 14g of fiber and only 5g of fat with very little sodium. That makes it healthy for not just our hearts, but for our entire bodies!

IMG_0726-1 The Italian Chard with Millet was definitely a new one for me. I’ve never actually had something with millet that I can remember. This reminded me a lot of rice or quinoa in terms of texture, and it really soaked up the flavors of the vegetables. Some of my favorite vegetables in here were eggplant, bell peppers, zucchini and kale. What I love about this type of meal is that it gets you trying new foods, without needing to buy them in the store or having to prepare them. With this service, you have healthy meals ready in seconds and you didn’t even have to drive to the store for them!

IMG_0759-1 Lastly, the French Lentil Tomato Penne. Normally I don’t think of having a meal with lentils AND pasta, but it ended up being super filling, protein-packed and chewy. The pasta is even gluten-free, though I honestly couldn’t tell from the taste. This meal was higher in calories than the others, but I really wasn’t paying attention to those because I knew these were super nutritious and good for me. In my opinion, it’s more about the quality of the ingredients than the quantity of calories. I noticed that this left me feeling full into the night, and I didn’t feel the need to snack at all after dinner. Because of this, I also slept soundly hours after having such a hearty but light meal. When we eat nourishing meals, we don’t have those strong urges to have unhealthy “midnight” snacks that often consist of junk food.

In summary, I have to say that I was really impressed with all the meals that Fresh N’ Lean provided to me to try out and review. This is a service I would highly recommend to anyone looking for super healthy and easy-to-prepare meals. I’m super excited that Sprout Living has recently reformulated their line of EPIC Protein, and they sent a few samples for me to experiment with in the kitchen. Their Green Kingdom is packed with superfoods and greens including sacha inchi, chlorella, spirulina, kale, moringa and many more! These pancakes end up coming out slightly green from the protein powder, but they taste so incredible you won’t even notice it! Sprout Living’s new line of proteins are great in smoothies, but I felt a little adventurous and decided to use them in a super easy breakfast recipe. No blender required, all you need is a mixing bowl, stovetop and pan but you still get a lot of the benefits that you would if you used this protein in a smoothie. Even if you have picky eaters in your house, they won’t even be able to tell that these contain a ton of superfoods in them!

I think we all know the magical moment when you pour the syrup on your pancakes and are just about to dig in. The best part of these nutritious pancakes aside from the flavor is that they’re super filling. That means you can sleep in and have these for a late breakfast and likely be full until dinner time.

Why have regular pancakes when you can make a batch that are protein-packed and full of healthy superfoods? Not to mention fluffy, flavorful and filling!

  1. 1 cup vanilla-flavored almond milk
  2. 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  3. 1 Tbs ground flaxseed
  4. 2 Tbs unsweetened applesauce
  5. 1 cup whole-wheat flour
  6. 2 scoops Sprout Living EPIC Protein: Green Kingdom powder
  7. 3 Tbs baking powder
  8. 2 Tbs coconut sugar (or other vegan sugar)
  9. pinch salt
  10. 1/4 + 1 Tbs water
  11. maple syrup, vegan butter or fruit and nuts for toppings
  1. 1. To make a vegan buttermilk, pour and stir the apple cider vinegar into the pre-measured almond milk and let sit for a couple minutes. Add the flaxseeds and mix until you get a smooth consistency.
  2. 2. Mix together the dry ingredients in a large bowl. Incorporate the wet mixture into the dry, adding the water and mixing until a batter forms. Be careful not to overmix.
  3. 3. Place a non-stick pan over medium heat and/or use cooking spray. Pour the batter onto the pan to make pancakes that are roughly 5 inches in diameter. Once they start to form bubbles, flip the pancakes cooking for 2-3 minutes on each side.
  4. 4. Serve with jam, peanut butter, nuts, vegan butter, syrup, and/or fresh fruit and enjoy!
  1. These pancakes can be made ahead of time and frozen to meal-prep for the week. Just wait until the pancakes cool completely and then place them into an airtight ziplock bag. Let them thaw briefly at room temperature and reheat using a microwave, oven or toaster oven.

Four Sigma Foods

Review of Four Sigma Foods @anotherhungryvegan.comFirst off, kudos to Four Sigma Foods for making such beautiful packaging! The XOCO Blue is the first product I tried because a shot of chocolate and chai sounded wonderful, and it was! Imagine a delicious, hot chocolate boosted with warm cinnamon and cardamom flavors that you can take with you wherever you go! Whether it be on your next airplane ride, hike, camping trip, or just spending the afternoon at a friend’s house these are perfectly portable. Just bring a couple packets to share between whoever you’re with, or they might get jealous.

I paired mine with a huge vegan croissant from Beet Box Bakery in a little espresso mug. These are recommended to be enjoyed espresso-style due to the burst of natural energy that they deliver. The flavor is a lot like espresso in terms of richness with the chocolate and spices. However, unlike espresso it left me feeling relaxed as opposed to jittery or hyper. This completely makes sense when you consider that Reishi mushrooms help to balance stress levels and improve your quality of sleep. Plus, Reishi helps to reduce the effects of aging but you can’t really even tell that it’s in this hot chocolate packet. Typical espresso definitely won’t cut it after you try some of this!

I felt like having a tea party of sorts (for myself mostly) and I got the chance to try one of these hot and the other iced. As Four Sigma Foods states on their website, they have made superfood mushrooms more accessible than ever with their line of Instant mushrooms. Just pour a packet into some hot or cold water, add some non-dairy milk or sweetener if you prefer and sip away!

Review of Four Sigma Foods @anotherhungryvegan.comThe Instant Cordyceps is described as a superfood mushroom drink with ginseng, to help give you an energy boost and aid in recovery. I found that it had a unique flavor, almost between coffee and tea. I decided to add a little coconut milk afterwards because I like my warm tea to have a little creaminess to it. Now, normally I don’t like black tea because of the caffeine. I will be awake literally the whole night if I have caffeine too late in the day. Thankfully this didn’t have that effect on me at all. If you’re looking for an energy boost but trying to quit caffeine, these Instant Cordycepts might be for you!

Review of Four Sigma Foods @anotherhungryvegan.comTo go with my shared cookies (made from Cappello’s Cookie Dough in case you wanted to know), a nice cold glass of Chaga mushrooms! This one did have a different flavor than the Cordycepts, and it was a little bit more earthy-tasting. I found that these Instant mushroom packs have a slightly rich, brothy flavor and because of that I really enjoyed them as I was getting over a small cold in the middle of winter this past week. Review of Sunbiotics - Organic Probiotics @anotherhungryvegan.comFirst off, the almonds! It’s awesome to have this “healthy gourmet snack with the extra benefits of probiotics”, as Sunbiotics states on their website. The best part of these almonds is that they are made with sprouted, raw and organic almonds which means that they will already digest better than standard almonds. In addition, these have been enhanced with a vegan probiotic blend, with up to 8 billion CFU per package!

They’re not quite chocolate-covered, however they do have a nice richness when you combine the taste of the almond with the chocolate powder. The ingredients in this pouch are: organic sprouted raw almonds, organic raw cacao powder, organic coconut sugar, probiotic blend of L. acidophilus, B. bifidum, B. lactis, B. longum I threw these almonds into a smoothie to make a cocoa-dusted almond milk base and it was incredible! Review of Sunbiotics - Organic Probiotics @anotherhungryvegan.comThe Cheesy Almonds are made with a dusting of nooch and sea salt. These are lightly salty but nice and crunchy at the same time. I remember buying these a while back and they were one of my favorite flavors of all the Sunbiotics (and I think they still are). If you like nooch, I think you will enjoy these savory almonds. You could definitely crush some of these and throw them into some salad or pasta! Or possibly making a noochy sauce with the almonds thrown in!

Like the name suggests, these are made with a truffle sea salt. They don’t have the cheesiness of the nutritional yeast-coated almonds but the salt adds an excellent savory factor. If you’re usually buying and eating salted, roasted almonds then this is a fantastic healthy alternative to try instead. Plus, you get the probiotic benefit that you won’t find in any standard nuts.

These are simply raw sprouted almonds enhanced with probiotics, but similar to the other almonds, they don’t taste different because of the probiotic blend. You could easily throw these into your oatmeal or make some trail mix and share it with your friends and family. No one needs to know that these almonds are great for healthy digestion!

The Vanilla-flavored powder is made with organic superfoods including vanilla, mesquite, and yacon root, which each add a prebiotic benefit as well. The best part? These also come in different flavors for kids and in a tablet form if that’s more up your alley. The difference between these chocolates and your standard chocolate pieces is that you treat them more like a vitamin. One jar has about 30 servings, which is roughly a one-month supply if you want to have one every day. Just like with the almonds, these hearts taste like dark chocolate and nothing else. If only all vitamins were this delicious, then you would never forget to take them! Coracao Confections Valentine’s Goodies

I can imagine that happiness looks something like getting chocolate delivered to your door. Am I wrong? I know Valentine’s Day is getting super close, but it’s never too late (or too early depending on when you read this) to start shopping for that special someone. Who did I buy these for you may ask? To be honest I bought a few different varieties for myself and as gift options to have on hand. Luckily, I had these just in time for my mom’s birthday and she helped me out in reviewing them! My mom really likes peppermint patties, so I gave her the one from Coracao to try. It’s the one on the bottom left if you were wondering! She said it was a million times better than any “generic” peppermint patty brands that you find in most stores. There was a hint of coconut along with the mint that really complimented the rich chocolate flavor nicely.

The Crangerine Truffle on the bottom right(a holiday/seasonal variety) had a sweet, cranberry orange taste that went surprisingly fantastic with the dark chocolate. The taste was very smooth, yet almost airy when you bite into it. I think this was a splendid holiday treat that I will wish was sold all-year round!

IMG_8099Next, the Chai Spice Truffle (top left), which had a similar lightness with cacao and the traditional spices you find in chai. Now, normally I don’t care for chai with chocolate, but this was a nice surprise. I really like the fact that these truffles aren’t overly sweet and they are made with only high-quality ingredients. The flavors really speak for themselves.

Ok, a bit of a warning on this one (bottom right). If you don’t like coffee or espresso, you probably won’t be a big fan of this one. But if you are like me and really like the coffee-chocolate combo (and I mean good-quality coffee and chocolate) then this Espresso Ganache truffle is definitely for you. What a powerful coffee flavor in such a little morsel. This may be a little more espresso than coffee in terms of flavor, but it still retains the same richness of the other chocolates.

IMG_8133The After Dark Truffle (bottom left) is one of my favorites. It has a true, dark chocolate flavor and a mousse filling along with many of the other truffles. If you or someone you know loves only the darkest chocolates, this is the one to try first for sure!

Also, the Almond Coconut Dream (top left) which tastes like a Mounds bar in truffle form! From what I can remember at least, although I think this is even better. The inside is soft and chewy, with a strong hit of coconut and actual flakes. This tastes how a candy bar should!

Last but not least of the truffles, the Almond Butter Bon Bon (top, second to left). This had a filling that oozed right out of the truffle as I bit into it. I could definitely taste the maca powder in here as well as the coconut sugar that gave it note of a toffee. I didn’t love this one compared to the other flavors, but if you like almond butter and cocoa together this might be right up your alley!

I couldn’t wait to try the Blondie Bar! It looks like a chocolate-dipped cookie and has a faint coconut and chocolate smell. The taste? Like a chewy coconut and vanilla cookie with a nice surprise. It’s advertised as a butterscotch cookie dough flavored macaroon dipped in 81% dark chocolate. Though the chocolate is really dark, the sweetness of the cookie helps to balance it out. After a couple bites, the bar really did taste like a sweet and buttery cookie. This bar is actually a pretty decent size, and you could even split it with someone special if you like.

IMG_8149Did someone say bacon? Relax, it’s coconut bacon! This make an excellent addition to your salads, sandwiches, and both sweet and savory dishes as an added topping. Or, you can just eat it out of the bag by the handful. No judging here! This would also make a great gift to bacon-lovers (omnivores and plant-eaters alike) or for someone who prefers savory treats to sweet ones! Just to be on the safe side, you can even get them one pack of coconut bacon and some truffles to see which they prefer.

I’ve been eyeing the other Coracao spreads, since trying their fantastic Salted Almond Caramel one that I tried in a smoothie recipe here. This particular spread is an almond butter with cacao nibs inside, and it has a nice nutty but surprisingly decadent taste from the nibs. It’s not overly sweet, and thanks to the coconut sugar, and maca this has a slight caramel-taste that makes it a wonderful treat even simply on a spoon. Oh, and if you are looking for a pick-me-up, this smoothie is truly worth trying, especially since it has some Coracao in it!

I thought this small box set was the perfect gift for my mom and I think she agreed! This one comes with everything from a Caramel Cup to a Raspberry Fudge Truffle. Now, I’m not going to go too in-depth with this one, but some of the favorites were the Hazelnut Mousse Truffle and the Berkley Bar, which is Coracao’s take on the classic Snickers® bar. In the past, I have tried rice milks and they really didn’t appeal to me all that much. Many typical rice drinks have very little protein (if any), lots of sugar, are super watery in consistency and don’t last that long in the fridge. I’ve also heard you can use this Rice Drink protein in baking, such as in recipes that call for non-dairy milk. Righteously Raw Chocolate @anotherhungryvegan.comIf one thing goes great with cacao, it’s maca! So, if you didn’t guess it already, the Maca Bar is a wonderful treat and eating it is quite the experience. This bar is made of cacao butter, dates, raisins, agave, vanilla, pink salt, and maca, mesquite and cacao powder. This has a rich, smoky almost malty flavor due to the maca and mesquite. If you liked Kit Kat bars, these are actually really similar in how you eat them. You break off a long piece, and each piece of the bar has this goey and decadent filling inside. If you’re curious about the benefits of maca I’ve mentioned it on the blog before, but it’s really helpful with improving endurance, energy, and keeping hormones in check. This Maca bar was the first of all of the chocolates that I tried, but I could already tell that the others were going to be excellent. 

Righteously Raw Chocolate @anotherhungryvegan.comGoji and Cacao are not ingredients I have together often, and I’m really not sure why! Both happen to be excellent superfoods with unique flavors. As soon as I broke into this bar, a gooey goji, fig and raisin filling emerged. This bar also contains organic mesquite pod powder, but it doesn’t have as much of a smoky flavor as the other bar since this one doesn’t have any maca powder. Although as a dark chocolate bar, this one is perfectly rich, yet chewy due to the filling in the middle. If you or someone you know loves fruit and chocolate together, then I think this is a great first bar to try out!

Righteously Raw Chocolate @anotherhungryvegan.comThe Caramel Bar, with Lucuma and Cacao was definitely one of my favorites of all three that I tried. This one is also made with all-organic ingredients: dates, lucuma fruit powder, vanilla, pink salt, cacao butter and powder and agave. This bar was just as rich as the others, but it had an extra sweetness from the lucuma. In case you’re wondering, the lucuma is rich in beta-carotene and iron and is a natural sweetener. I actually tried some of the filling on its own and wow, it truly does taste like a milky caramel. It was a great addition to this bar because along with being good for you, it really balances out the rich, deep flavor of the cacao. The filling inside was creamy and decadent, just like you would find in any traditional caramel-chocolate bar only way better. If you like sweet flavors over the more smoky flavors, I think this is the bar for you!

It’s the perfect square of chocolate for after dinner or lunch, or for when you get a sudden chocolate craving. I love the flavor of the maca that adds a malty and smoky essence. Plus this bar isn’t as sweet as the others so if you are more of a savory person, you might end up liking this bar the most!

Righteously Raw Chocolate @anotherhungryvegan.comThe 83% Pure Dark Cacao bite-sized bar is just what I had hoped it would be. A rich, chocolately treat packed into a small square of chocolate. The darker the cacao, the better in terms of not just flavor but also health-wise. I can tell this is made with really high quality dark chocolate, and because of that I really only need one square at a time.

I was honestly expecting more of a macaroon cookie in the shape of a ball, but I was pleasantly surprised with this fancy chocolate truffle! It’s actually a coconut macaroon dipped in chocolate, and what’s better than that? This bar gets its sweetness from agave, vanilla and coconut palm nectar which give it a buttery, cookie-dough like taste that’s just incredible!

The Rose bar is a beautiful pink color because of the raspberries and beet in the ingredients. It about half a sweet, lightly fruity taste and half a rich cacao/chocolate flavor. I have to say it again, this bar is a super pretty hue that you don’t find in most chocolate bars!

The Mint bar was one that both my mom and I really enjoyed. She tends to go for mint and chocolate combos first (which I can’t blame her for), and I think this bar is a great reason why. The mint comes from essential peppermint oil with no refined sugar. This bar is refreshing from the mint but still nicely rich and not too sweet from the organic cacao, vanilla and just a little agave.

The chocolate itself is very rich, and probably a little less sweet as the other bite-sized bars. The spices? Cinnamon, cayenne, and aji panca powder (which I found out is a type of pepper). Sometimes, it’s nice to have some spice in your life but if you are super sensitive, then you might want to pass on it. However, don’t forget that spicy foods have a lot of health benefits and not to mention, sinus-clearing abilities!
