Vanilla Lucuma Buckwheat Shake

A high-protein, gluten-free, lower-in-fat Vanilla Lucuma Buckwheat Shake @anotherhungryvegan.comRemember when I promised another Sprout Living recipe in my previous post? Well, you’re looking at it! After trying the Original, Chocolate Maca, and Green Kingdom EPIC Protein flavors I was just dying to use the Vanilla Lucuma in a recipe. This shake/smoothie is nut-free, gluten-free, soy-free and low in fat but still high in protein and fiber. I only recently started using buckwheat in smoothies, and I was amazed at how it makes them so creamy and filling. The frozen pear, vanilla, and spices all compliment the Vanilla Lucuma protein quite nicely. Keep reading on for the recipe! Continue reading

A high-protein, gluten-free, lower-in-fat Vanilla Lucuma Buckwheat Shake @anotherhungryvegan.comA high-protein, gluten-free, lower-in-fat Vanilla Lucuma Buckwheat Shake @anotherhungryvegan.comAs I’ve mentioned in the past, I’m a big fan of Sprout Living, and their newly reformulated EPIC Protein is pretty impressive! Not too long ago they sent me some samples including a cool shaker bottle and a full-size of their Green Kingdom (which I’m a big fan of as well). I think my favorite will always be the Chocolate Maca with the Vanilla Lucuma as a close second. In case you’re not familiar with lucuma or maca, both are considered “superfoods” for their nutritional benefits. However, what I really love about them is the unique flavor that they add to any smoothie. Throwing them into your favorite recipe really kicks things up a notch. These protein powders from Sprout Living are perfectly balanced with ingredients so that you get the superfoods with delicious flavors that are ready to be used.

Now, let me know in the comments below…what kind of recipe would YOU use the Vanilla Lucuma protein in?

Raspberry Chocolate Chip Shake

A super delicious and healthy vegan Raspberry Chocolate Chip Shake @anotherhungryvegan.comI’ve had a few Sprout Living smoothie recipes on my mind lately, and I couldn’t wait any longer to share them with you! If this is the first time you’re hearing about Sprout Living, well basically they make a line of super nutritious, raw, gluten-free and vegan protein powders. One of my favorite flavors of all time has been their EPIC Protein: Chocolate Maca. Sprout Living recently reformulated their line, and I was eagerly waiting in anticipation to try it out! The first recipe I made with their reformulated Chocolate Maca is for this Raspberry Chocolate Chip Shake, which isn’t your standard protein shake. This one is filled with protein and healthy fats, without any artificial sweeteners or color additives. Believe it or not, the color is from raspberries and the sweetener comes from bananas and dates. Read on for the recipe, and to learn more about one of my favorite products from Sprout Living! A super delicious and healthy vegan Raspberry Chocolate Chip Shake @anotherhungryvegan.comA super delicious and healthy vegan Raspberry Chocolate Chip Shake @anotherhungryvegan.comAs I mentioned before…the new protein line from Sprout Living is even better than the first formulation I tried! A big thanks to the company for sending over samples, and for inviting me to be one of the Healthy Vegan Chefs on their website! If you’re looking for more of my recipe experiments using their products, I actually have quite a few on this blog that you are more than welcome to check out. I’ve made smoothies before with just almond milk, a banana and the protein (and maybe a date or two) and even the simplest combinations have turned out phenomenal.

Chocolate Cocozia & Espresso Shake

An alternative to that Mocha Coconut Frappuccino you used to love. Plus it's vegan, gluten-free and delicious! @anotherhungryvegan.comExpo was a lot of fun and all, but I was missing smoothies almost the whole time. I ended up with a few bags of samples to take home (luckily I was able to check a separate suitcase), and I wanted to make something special with some of the items. Cocozia also happened to send me some samples of their Chocolate Coconut Water, and although I’ve been featuring some recipes using it on my Instagram, I couldn’t wait to share this particular recipe! This shake tastes like a delicious frappuccino, but it’s even better. Yes, Starbucks might have coconut milk, but I doubt that they have chocolate coconut water on hand!  Continue reading

Review of Cocozia @anotherhungryvegan.comI’ve done a few recipes on this blog using Cocozia Coconut Water in the past. Their coconut water is organic, vegan, gluten-free and now comes in a few flavors. I love how pure it tastes, and it’s a great addition to my smoothies and shakes as an alternative to non-dairy milks. It has a ton of potassium and electrolytes to keep you feeling hydrated all day long. Fun fact: when I was in high school, I started an exercise routine but that didn’t mean I was eating the healthiest of foods. After a long and tough workout, I would drive over to Starbucks to get a Mocha Frappuccino Light (this was before my vegan days) thinking that it was actually a healthy option. Let’s just say…I’m really glad I crave these much healthier protein shakes instead!

I’ve also been obsessed with these Italian Espresso Coconut Chips from Made in Nature. They have a smoked, espresso tastes and add a nice crunch to any recipe!

Chick Seitan Salad

Upton's Naturals Chick Seitan Salad Recipe @anotherhungryvegan.comIf you’ve been following this blog for a while, then it’s probably no mystery that I’m a fan of Upton’s Naturals. In fact, you can check out a previous review I did on all their seitan varieties right on this blog. If you aren’t familiar with Upton’s Naturals, then I’ll give you a brief summary on their products. Upton’s makes a variety of vegan meats made out of seitan, that come in flavors including Chorizo, Italian, and even Bacon. Seitan is made out of wheat protein, so it’s high in protein but low in fat and you prepare it just like you would any traditional meats. Upton’s Naturals recently came out with a Chick Seitan, that I was really excited to try out. This one actually has chickpeas in the ingredients, and it definitely has a distinct flavor from the other seitan varieties. Inevitably, I came up with this Chick Seitan Salad recipe that’s super high in protein and made with ingredients you likely have on-hand already. All you need is the seitan and you’re basically good to go! Continue reading

Upton's Naturals Chick Seitan Salad Recipe @anotherhungryvegan.comUpton's Naturals Chick Seitan Salad Recipe @anotherhungryvegan.comBecause of the chickpeas in the ingredients, I was inspired to make a vegan version of chicken salad. This one uses store-bought vegan mayo and it’s completely cholesterol free. I recommend using the original Just Mayo from Whole Foods, or you can go for Vegenaise or your other favorite plant-based mayo. I mixed the seitan and chickpeas with other ingredients I like such as carrots, tomato, celery, beets and bell pepper. I recommend adding some dried dill and other herbs such as parsley, along with lemon juice, freshly cracked pepper and sea salt for added flavor. You can eat it as-is or serve on top of a bed of lettuce, have with crackers, or enjoy inside a sandwich. It’s sure to not disappoint either way!

Upton's Naturals Chick Seitan Salad Recipe @anotherhungryvegan.com
What I love about this salad is the pairing of the creamy dressing with the chewy and crunchy textures of seitan and veggies. I think it’s better when chilled for a couple of hours before serving, but that’s just me. Luckily it transports really well, according to my mom who took some to have for lunch at work. This would also be a delicious addition to your next picnic (it makes about twice as much as pictured FYI), to share with a friend or loved one. Let me know in the comments below…what would you have with this Chick Seitan Salad?

Ingredients
  1. 1 pack Upton’s Naturals Chik Seitan
  2. 2 Tbs Vegan Mayo
  3. Diced carrot, celery, cooked beets, tomato, red onion and pickles
  4. 1 cup cooked chickpeas
  5. 1/4 tsp dried dill
  6. salt and pepper, to taste
  7. squeeze of lemon juice (optional)
  8. 1 tsp mustard
  9. Romaine lettuce, for serving (optional)
Instructions
  1. 1. Remove the Chick Seitan from the package and tear/crumble into a small bowl. Cook the seitan by microwaving for about 1 minute and 30 seconds, or until warmed throughout. Set aside to cool, and meanwhile assemble the salad.
  2. 2. Drain, rinse and strain the chickpeas if using a canned variety, then mix with the diced vegetables. In a separate bowl, mix together the vegan mayo, dried dill, salt and pepper, lemon juice, and mustard. Add the cooled Chick Seitan to the chickpea and vegetable mixture, then add in the mayo mix and stir well.
  3. 3. After mixing everything, store in the fridge for a few hours before serving. Enjoy on top of a bed of romaine lettuce, have in a sandwich, or enjoy as a side to your favorite picnic foods.

A sweet superfood Blueberry Pecan Cinnamon Roll Shake with plenty of protein and healthy ingredients. Did I mention it's raw, gluten-free and vegan too? @anotherhungryvegan.comFor the past few months, I’ve been really anxious to try Sprout Living‘s new, reformulated EPIC Protein line. I jumped for joy when I received samples in the mail to try the updated flavors, many of which were completely new to me. I went for the “Original” flavor and decided to come up with a chocolate-free, gluten-free and raw shake. If that doesn’t sound like music to your ears, then just wait when you find out this has the perfect balance of rich, nutty pecans, fresh blueberries and warming cinnamon to start your day out right. Did you know that blueberries and cinnamon are considered to be superfoods? They’ve even come up with a new Simple Signatures variety and other products that you can browse on their online store. As for the EPIC variety, they have these three flavors plus a Green Kingdom flavor (which I used to make these delicious superfood pancakes if you’re interested). I’m really eager to try these other flavors in some recipes too. Their previous Chocolate Maca protein was good, but word has it that this new one is even better. Plus I finally get to try the Vanilla Lucuma! The original has a subtle and natural flavor and like Sprout Living’s other products, it’s 100% plant-based, organic, non-gmo, gluten free and made with hypoallergenic ingredients.

Green Superfood Protein Pancakes

Why have regular pancakes when you can make these healthy and delicious Green Superfood Protein Pancakes? @anotherhungryvegan.com Who doesn’t love pancakes for breakfast? I swear these are healthier and lower-in-fat than your standard pancakes and other sweet breakfast items. Their Green Kingdom is packed with superfoods and greens including sacha inchi, chlorella, spirulina, kale, moringa and many more! One serving is 20g of raw, organic and gluten-free plant protein. I’ve been experimenting with protein-packed breakfast items besides smoothies such as protein oats and banana ice cream, and pancakes were just calling my name. If you’re going to make a home-cooked meal, why not make the most of it? I challenge you next weekend, to have brunch with your family or invite some friends over. And if you need something to make, these pancakes aren’t a bad choice! They’re also a double-win if it’s around St Paddy’s Day!

Why have regular pancakes when you can make these healthy and delicious Green Superfood Protein Pancakes? @anotherhungryvegan.com
These pancakes end up coming out slightly green from the protein powder, but they taste so incredible you won’t even notice it! Sprout Living’s new line of proteins are great in smoothies, but I felt a little adventurous and decided to use them in a super easy breakfast recipe. No blender required, all you need is a mixing bowl, stovetop and pan but you still get a lot of the benefits that you would if you used this protein in a smoothie. Even if you have picky eaters in your house, they won’t even be able to tell that these contain a ton of superfoods in them!

Why have regular pancakes when you can make these healthy and delicious Green Superfood Protein Pancakes? @anotherhungryvegan.com
I think we all know the magical moment when you pour the syrup on your pancakes and are just about to dig in. The best part of these nutritious pancakes aside from the flavor is that they’re super filling. That means you can sleep in and have these for a late breakfast and likely be full until dinner time.

Stay tuned for more Sprout Living recipes coming this week. In the meantime, check out Sprout Living’s Website and pick up some Epic Protein: Green Kingdom for yourself (they even have trial sizes available). Let me know in the comments below, what kinds of toppings would you put on your protein pancakes?

PSB&J Shake

A sweet, allergy-friendly shake that tastes just like a PB&J sandwich in smoothie form! @anotherhungryvegan.com I know you’ve heard of a PB&J, so you’re probably thinking “ok, what does the S stand for?” Well, this happens to be a nut-free sunbutter and jelly shake with probiotics (hence the P). Not too long ago, Sunbiotics sent me some of their probiotic snacks, chocolate and powder to try out and I knew I just had to share a recipe with you all. This shake is also made with Dastony’s Sunflower Seed Butter as an alternative to non-dairy milk. Thanks to protein powder, it is also energy-rich and sure to help keep you or your family feeling full. It tastes just like a kid-friendly PB&J sandwich, but without the gluten or nuts!  Continue reading

A sweet, allergy-friendly shake that tastes just like a PB&J sandwich in smoothie form! @anotherhungryvegan.com
I don’t know if you’ve ever thrown sunflower seed butter into a smoothie, but it’s quite an experience! You can always use peanut butter or almond butter, but I wanted to come up with a nut-free shake so that people with allergies can still enjoy it. In fact, you can get really creative with the ingredients and use any nut or seed butter that you like. I’m tempted to try this in the future with some hemp seeds or macadamia nuts in place of the sunflower seed butter.

A sweet, allergy-friendly shake that tastes just like a PB&J sandwich in smoothie form! @anotherhungryvegan.comAs mentioned before, these are the stars of this smoothie. Thankfully Windy City Organics gave me the opportunity to try a few of the products from their different brands which I’ve been really pleased with. The Sunbiotics Vanilla powder is great because you literally only have to add 1/3 a teaspoon to get the benefit of the probiotics. How easy is that? I’ve also been enjoying the fantastic products from Growing Naturals including this Vanilla Blast Brown Rice protein. I love using these ingredients together in a smoothie like this because they are made with raw ingredients, yet they happen to be very allergy-friendly but packed with good nutrients (not to mention protein). Smoothies are a great way to incorporate these kinds of foods into your diet!

A sweet, allergy-friendly shake that tastes just like a PB&J sandwich in smoothie form! @anotherhungryvegan.comThis shake was made with fresh strawberries, however if you use frozen ones it’ll be a lot thicker. Personally I like to work with what I have, and this was still perfectly fine in terms of taste, and it’s much easier to drink without a straw. To me, it’s really important not to add too much ice to the smoothie because it really waters down the taste. Adding frozen fruit (especially bananas) can really help to solve that issue. Anyway, I hope you liked this recipe and take a look at my review of the other products made by Sunbiotics while you’re at it!

Vanilla Matcha Pumpkin Seed Shake

Vanilla Matcha Pumpkin Seed Shake @anotherhungryvegan.comThis is the last of my Dastony review posts (for this week anyway)! Since it’s Friday, what better way to power through your day than with some matcha and pumpkin seeds? Interestingly enough, I did some searching online and I found out that pumpkin seeds have some benefits that I didn’t even know about! Did you know that they are the only seed that is alkaline-forming in the body? Or that they contain the minerals phosphorus, magnesium, manganese, iron and copper? Of course these seeds are also a great source of heart-healthy fats and protein. All the better reason to eat them. With this vanilla and matcha smoothie recipe, it’s easier than ever to get in your dose of pumpkin seeds! Continue reading

Vanilla Matcha Pumpkin Seed Shake @anotherhungryvegan.com
I love the fact that Dastony makes a sprouted and all-organic pumpkin seed butter. I literally have never been able to find another one in any of the stores I shop at (and certainly not one made with organic ingredients)! Can you guess what’s in this jar? Just organic, raw and sprouted pumpkin seeds! No sugar or salt added and definitely no preservatives. Like the other nut and seed butters, no refrigeration is required and you don’t have to keep stirring the seed butter to avoid clumping. It has a rich, almost cheesy flavor that I know would make an excellent pesto or other sauce. I went for the smoothie option (typical, I know), but I will definitely be experimenting with some other recipes!

Vanilla Matcha Pumpkin Seed Shake @anotherhungryvegan.comSimilar to my other recipes, this one also features Growing Naturals Vanilla Blast protein. It adds a smooth and sweet taste, and you would never know that it adds 24g of protein per scoop! I also included a teaspoon of Kiss Me Organics Matcha Powder which helps give you a boost along with a little maca powder thrown in the mix. A huge thanks to Windy City Organics for sending these awesome jars of nut-free seed butters for me to try! As mentioned before, if you’re interested in purchasing Dastony, you can do so on the Dastony website. Which nut or seed butter are you wanting to try first?
